8 Reasons to get the Honor 8

I have used the Honor 8 for three weeks now, and I really, really love this phone. Here are the top 8 reasons why you should get the Honor 8 for yourself as well.

1. Amazing camera

Yes. The dual camera is no gimmick. Despite not featuring the dedicated monochrome mode which was the Huawei P9’s claim to fame, the Honor 8 still features a dual RGB + monochrome camera system. The camera combines the data obtained from both sensor to obtain a sharp and vivid image in any lighting conditions. And even without the dedicated monochrome mode, the Mono filter gives B&W shots that look way better than from any other smartphone. Don’t believe me? See for yourself.

2. Kirin 950 is both powerful and power efficient

Usually these two adjectives do not describe a single SoC, but Huawei managed to pull of a manufacturing feat with their Kirin 950. The Kirin 950 is based on the 16nm manufacturing process, which promises less power leakage, for better power efficiency, and in turn, longer battery life. With the four A72 cores and four A53 cores, the Kirin 950 is quite the speed demon as well. Speed and battery life. Just perfect.

3. Smart Key integrated into the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor

Fingerprint sensors are too mainstream nowadays. Bringing over the much-loved Smart Key from the Honor 7 which offered a way for users quick access to various features, Honor has now integrated it into the fingerprint sensor. Yes, you can now press the fingerprint sensor, double tap it, and slide down over it as shortcuts to apps as well as the notification shade. Trust me, once you get used to this, you will never look at any device without this functionality.

4. Stunning design

If you have ever seen the Honor 8, you will know that the back glass panel is really one of a kind. Consisting of up to 15 layers of glass, the Honor 8’s back refracts and reflects light in a way you must see to truly admire. Supposedly every unit has the 15 layers stacked a bit differently, so your device is uniquely yours, unlike any other.

5. Fast charging via USB Type-C

The Honor 8 actually comes with a fast charger in the box. Even the Huawei P9 doesn’t, which makes it even more awesome. The new USB Type-C connector makes the Honor 8 the first Honor device with the latest USB standard, and is really nifty. Gone are the days of visually checking/feeling the microUSB connector to get it in the right orientation.

For the RM1699 Honor is asking for the 32GB version of the Honor 8, it is really quite a steal. Where else can you get a flagship-class smartphone for this price? Before this we had Xiaomi, but now, I am not so sure.
