We had a chance to experience Acer’s Predator Thronos gaming chair today. Acer is the only company to produce such a ‘gaming cave’ that has been engineered to work specifically with a set of components to bring the gaming experience to the next level. It was actually unveiled at this year’s Next@Acer IFA Berlin Global Press Conference, and three months later, Acer has managed to bring it to our shores here in Malaysia.

Straight away, you could see that the Thronos is a massive setup. with three monitors spotted at the front that’s held together with the mount and they move with a simple push of a button. The gaming chair resembles a first-class airline seat that cocoons you inside of it. Standing 1.5 meters tall, it offers a steel structure and comes in a dual-tone black with white or blue accents.

Once you’re inside, you’ll feel the immersion kicking in straight away. The Predator Thronos supports three 27-inch gaming monitors. Despite that, if you aren’t satisfied with those monitors, you can even change it to 24-inch monitors or even upgrade it even further. As for usage, you can adjust the height of the monitors to your liking at the control panel at the left side of the chair.

Here’s the look from the inside. Once the you’ve entered the Thronos, the monitors will come to a viewing level and the desk will move inwards, creating that ‘cocoon’ effect. The setup is nice but I wished that the Thronos allowed for users to customize the distance of the monitors from the seat. You wouldn’t have much space if you had a steering wheel in front of you to play your racing games by that manner. Other than that, the gaming chair offers deep impact vibration, where the Thronos vibrates upon in-game impact. Getting vibration at your back from the Thronos was a nice experience, where it felt like a massage chair (well almost) but I didn’t fancy the vibration coming from the seat itself, it just feels weird. Despite that, the vibration is adjustable and includes an ergonomic seat design, footrest and a cabin that reclines up to 140-degrees.

This is where all the magic happens. Here’ you’ve got the control panel for the Thronos as well as the controller for the vibrations. As you can see, there’s a  lot adjustments you can make, such as the monitor adjustment mentioned earlier. Getting in and out from the Thronos happens here, and talking about that, though it was rather cool that the ‘throne’ would open/close for you automatically, I wish that the time it took to complete its action was faster. I mean, who knows, you might have an emergency and need to rush to the toilet right? (we’ve all been there too). I liked the fact that they’ve prepared cup holders at the side there and there’s even a slot where you can put your headphones in place.
