Google To Publicly Test AR Prototypes Beginning Next Month

Google stated recently that it will begin publicly testing augmented reality (AR) devices starting next month. The company has been experimenting with concepts such as AR glasses that display real-time translations, but the corporation wants to move its ideas outside the lab and into the real world.

This initiative will help the company understand how these technologies can aid individuals in their daily lives. Developing experiences like AR navigation will also help the company account for aspects like weather and congested junctions, which can be difficult, if not impossible, to properly duplicate indoors.

Google plans to start with small-scale public testing with AR prototypes worn by a few dozen Googlers and trustworthy testers. These prototypes will contain in-lens displays, microphones, and cameras, but they will be severely limited in their capabilities.

For example, the AR prototypes do not support photography or videography, but image data will be utilised to enable experiences such as translating the menu in front of the users or directing them to a local coffee shop.
