[UPDATED] Sony unleashes new 135mm f/1.8 G Master lens
Portrait photographers, rejoice. Sony has just announced their latest 135mm f/1.8 G Master lens for their full-frame E-mount interchangeable lens system. This is the first 135mm f/1.8 released by Sony for the E-mount system, with the previous ZEISS Batis 135mm f/2.8 coming in with a smaller aperture.
The new G Master lens comes with an 11-blade aperture, allowing for a more natural looking bokeh. It touts a floating focus mechanism too, making it possible to achieve a minimum focus distance of just 0.7m. Sony also promises corner-to-corner sharpness with XA, Super ED glass and ED glass elements.
With such a wide aperture and long focal length, a precise focusing mechanism is all the more important for usability. Sony has equipped the 135mm f/1.8 G Master with dual XD linear motors for fast, quiet and accurate focusing, making it easier to maintain focus on moving subjects. For those who prefer to get their hands dirty, there are plenty of controls on the barrel itself for an intuitive shooting experience.
The lens will be shipping in late April, with a price tag of $1900, with 1 cent of change. Well, it’s still cheaper than a Galaxy Fold, right?
