According to Apple, the issue of Macs bricking as a result of the Monterey update was due to a firmware issue that plagued the Apple T2 chips on certain machines. The newest firmware update resolves the issue so it’s no longer something you have to worry about.

For those of you who are using the MacBooks powered by the new new M1 Pro or M1 Max, it already comes with the Monterey update installed so even though its using the Apple T2 security chips, there’s nothing to worry about there. If your machine has already been bricked, Apple says that you can contact them to get it repaired, but no word on how long it will take.
