ASUS announces slew of Coffee Lake-based gaming laptops — there is even an unlocked Core i9 in a laptop!

More cores for more fun!

ASUS has just announced most of their current gaming-capable models will be refreshed with the latest 6-core 8th Generation Intel Core processors. In case you have not been updated, Intel has released the first batch of 8th Generation Intel Core processors for mobile, as well as a second series with Radeon Vega graphics. This is the much awaited high-end performance-oriented 8th Generation Intel Core processors, and they feature up to 6 cores running at up to 4.8 GHz.

ROG lineup

While the ROG lineup consists mostly of refreshes, there is a standout — the ROG Zephyrus M. The Zephyrus M GM501 offers high performance with new 12V anti-dust fans and the exclusive patented ROG Active Aerodynamic System (AAS). Also differentiating this model from its predecessor (aside from the newer CPU) is the GeForce GTX 1070 Max-P, which performs at a higher level than the GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q. The standard Zephyrus GX501 with the GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q is also available with the newer CPU.

The ROG G703 receives an update to the highest end i9-8950HK, a monstrous 6-core CPU with unlocked multipliers. The 12-threaded beast is also clocked at up to 4.8 GHz when running a single core, dropping down to 4.3 GHz when running on all six cores. The rest of its specifications are equally impressive, with 32GB of DDR4 RAM, 512GB of RAID 0 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 storage and a GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X. All that power ensures that you can use the 17.3″ FHD 144 Hz IPS-level display with G-SYNC technology to its fullest.

Meanwhile, the ROG Strix GL series sees three new ROG Strix GL703 SCAR Edition with GeForce GTX 1070, GTX 1060 and GTX 1050 Ti variants. MOBA fans are also in for a treat, with the ROG Strix GL503 HERO Edition receiving not only an update to the latest 8th Gen Intel Core CPUs, but also a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti instead of the GTX 1050 in the outgoing variant. Surprisingly the ROG Strix GL503 SCAR Edition laptops aren’t listed to receive this CPU upgrade.

TUF Gaming lineup

The TUF Gaming FX504, the first laptops in the new TUF Gaming series, builds upon the ASUS FX503 with the latest CPUs and new features. The TUF Gaming FX504 series now sport the FireCuda SSHDs which were previously available in the ROG Strix GL series. They also sport a more aggressive outlook to emphasize their gaming capabilities.

Pricing and availability

All models will be available in April 2018, while the ROG G703 will only be available in May. Prices are TBA, but we will update it as soon as we receive the latest price list!

Pokdepinion: It seems that ASUS isn’t going to shake things up with new designs, but maybe we will see those when NVIDIA launches their next generation GPUs?
