MSI is well known as one of the best gaming laptop manufacturers, and now they have one-upped themselves with the release of the MSI GS40 Phantom. The MSI GS40 Phantom is a sleek 14″ gaming notebook equipped with Intel’s latest 6th generation Intel Core i7 Skylake processors and also the enthusiast-grade NVIDIA GeForce GTX970M 3GB GDDR5 graphics processing units. 16GB DDR4 is included, with support for up to 32GB of DDR4-2133 RAM (2 slots), and storage is handled by a single 256GB PCIE Gen3 NVMe SSD coupled with a standard issue 1TB 7200rpm 2.5″ HDD.

The screen is a 14″ FHD (1080p) IPS anti-glare display. As usual with current-gen laptops, the GS40 Phantom will come preinstalled with Windows 10 Home.

GS40 Phantom

What makes the GS40 Phantom special is not the powerful hardware, but actually the weight and thinness of this laptop. It weighs only 1.6kg with the battery and is only 22.8mm at its thickest point, a very impressive feat if you consider the performance that this svelte beast will deliver.

Of course being a part of the MSI family, the GS40 Phantom will not be left out of MSI-exclusive features, e.g. keyboard by Steelseries, ESS SABRE HiFi Audio DAC, Nahimic Audio Enhancer, DYNAUDIO speakers, True Color Technology and also Killer Double Shot Pro.

The GS40 6QE Phantom we will be seeing in Malaysia should come with these specifications:

GS40 6QE Phantom

14″ Full HD, IPS Panel, Anti-Glare (1920*1080)
6th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor + HM170
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 3GB GDDR5
DDR IV 16GB
256GB SSD (PCIE Gen3 NVMe) + 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm
WINDOWS 10 HOME
*Comes with Gaming Mouse & Ultra Backpack

SRP @ RM8,999

This beast is expected to hit stores by November.

Pokdepinion: The 1.6kg weight is really the most interesting specification of the GS40 Phantom. With so much power packed into such a lightweight body, truly portable gaming laptops have come to be.
