Skylake is the codename of the latest generation of Intel CPUs based on the 14nm process node, promising lower power consumption and better performance than ever before. MSI has been quick to pack Intel’s latest and greatest into their gaming notebooks.

GT72b

The latest MSI GT72 Dominator is available with an option of either the Intel Core i7 6700HQ for the MSI GT72 Dominator G or Intel Core i7 6820HK in the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro G. While the HQ suffix is rather common, this is the first time I have seen the HK suffix. As with desktop processors, the i7 6820HK is an overclockable part, allowing you to push it up to a lofty 4 GHz.

The GT72 Dominator Pro G also features NVIDIA GSync technology, which syncs the refresh rate of the display with the frame rate output of the GPU. While we are talking about the GPU, the MSI GT72 Dominator G will come with a NVIDIA GTX 970M 3GB DDR5 while the beefier MSI GT72 Dominator Pro G will be equipped with a NVIDIA GTX 980M 8GB DDR5. The GT72 Dominators support the MXM standard, allowing you to upgrade with an even more powerful GPU in the future.

Both GT72 Dominator variants come with 16GB of DDR4-2133 RAM and will support up to 32GB. A 1TB 7200rpm HDD takes care of the storage in these beasts. 17.3″ 1080p Anti-Glare IPS displays are standard with the GT72 Dominators.

GS70

The more portable MSI GS70 6QE Stealth Pro is also equipped with the latest Skylake i7 6700HQ CPU, along with 16GB of DDR4-2133 RAM. The GS70 Stealth Pro will come out of the factory with 256GB SSD (M.2 SATA) +1TB (SATA) 7200rpm which should satisfy most enthusiasts and gamers alike. Graphics is handled by a NVIDIA GTX 970M 3GB DDR5 and the 17.3″ 1080p Anti-Glare IPS panel will display all the pixels in their full glory.

All three of these laptops will come with the latest ESS SABRE HiFi Audio DAC which supports Hi-Res Audio along with Nahimic Audio Enhancer, Steelseries keyboards with silver lining print, True Color Technology which promises greater image details and of course, Windows 10.

The GT72 Dominator Pro G will have a SRP of RM11,499, the GT72 Dominator G with a SRP of RM9,499 and last but not least, the GS70 will cost RM9,388.

Pokdepinion: Intel Skylake CPUs will bring improved performance and power efficiency as well as lesser heat output, all important features for a mobile gamer. Along with the MSI Exclusive features, those who are in the market for extreme gaming laptops should give these beasts some serious consideration.
