While earlier leaks have already pointed to GeForce GTX 16-series laptops, they are finally made official. NVIDIA has worked with all their major partners to bring the more affordable lineup of Turing-based GPUs to the market, so you can expect new laptops featuring the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and GeForce GTX 1650 GPUs coming from your preferred brand very soon.

The new GeForce GTX 16-series laptops are designed to replace Maxwell-powered laptops, with the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti up to 4x better performance than older GeForce GTX 960M designs. Compared against a laptop with the more recent GeForce GTX 1060, NVIDIA promises up to 50% better performance with GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.

The Acer Nitro 5 will be refreshed with the latest GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.

GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (Mobile) Specifications

  • TU116 @ up to 1590 MHz, 12nm FinFET
  • 1536 CUDA cores
  • 6GB GDDR6 @ 12 Gbps, 192-bit memory interface
  • 60-80W TDP
  • Designs starting from $999 (~RM4123)

Meanwhile the lower end GeForce GTX 1650 laptops will offer up to 2.5x performance versus a laptop equipped with a GeForce GTX 950M, and 70% better performance than a GeForce GTX 1050 laptop. Those are pretty impressive numbers considering how prevalent GeForce GTX 1050 laptops are in the market. Interestingly, the mobile variant of the GeForce GTX 1650 will have more CUDA cores (1024 CUDA cores) than the desktop version (896 CUDA cores), somewhat similar to what NVIDIA did with the GeForce GTX 1070 back then.
