Apple is Rather Quiet on the iPhone XS #Chargegate Issue

Not long ago, we reported about a particular issue on the iPhone XS which has been dubbed as Chargegate, which you can read about right here. What it essentially is is that the device refuses to charge if it has been idle for a while, with some only charging if the display is awake.

Even Lewis Hilsenteger from Unbox Therapy has chimed in on the issue, where he demonstrated the Chargegate issue by testing it on 9 iPhones and plugging them only to an official Apple charge in a video he uploaded to his YouTube channel.

The 2017 iPhone X charged without any issues but many of the new iPhone XS and XS Max devices refused to charge when plugged in. Interestingly, this is not an issue when he used wireless charging, only wired.

It’s worth noting that since iOS 11.4.1, the lightning port canbe disabled when the device has been idle for a while, which may be related to how this issue came about.

In a tweet, Lewis mentioned that while Apple has to give an official statement regarding the matter nor provide a solution for it, he has received screenshots from users which indicated that Apple is at least aware that chargegate is a thing and that they’re investigating the issue.

At the moment, there is no working solution for the issue just yet. It would be more viable to use a wireless charger for the time being.

Pokdepinion: Anybody here feels that this could possibly be a sign that Apple may just remove the Lightning port in the future and rely solely on wireless charging? I sure do.
