We questioned ASUS’ decision to push Android 9 Pie to the ASUS ZenFone 5 ahead of the ASUS ZenFone 5z. Why would a mid-range device get an update to the latest Android version before the flagship? It seems like ASUS ZenFone 5z users’ complaints have been addressed, with Android 9 Pie rolling out for the ASUS ZenFone 5z.

Unfortunately the rollout has only begun in Taiwan, and users in other countries have yet to see the update on their phones. The update is a huge 1.04GB update, and brings with it the native Android 9 Pie gestures and navigation system. Also in the update is the November 2018 security patch, which is actually a little old by now.

As usual, the update will be rolled out gradually across regions, and you might very well receive the update before the new year. ASUS’ has planned for the update to hit the ASUS ZenFone 5z in January 2019, and it’s nice to see them actually overachieve by delivering it a tad earlier than expected.

What feature are you most looking forward to in the Android 9 Pie update for the ASUS ZenFone 5z? Let us know!
