ASUS is definitely on a wild ride this year. First, the improved ASUS Zephyrus-M but yet reduced price compared to it’s elder sibling, then their notchy ASUS ZenFone 5 made some headlines. But ASUS is not stopping there. In fact, the real big bang is about to happen soon as we now confirm that the launching date of ASUS ZenFone 5 and ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 has been officially set to May 31, 2018. This will probably be the craziest wave of the ASUS’ best selling line-up’s latest addition. I’m not speculating, I’m speaking from actual experience here.

The current buzz in the industry in this segment is the rise of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 that is the first device to spot a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 and priced ridiculously cheap. At RM799, the Xiaomi even announced that they have put the price at a “very low margin” close to it’s cost price. Fair enough, I mean, Xiaomi is probably the only international brand that I would put my bets on gambling something like this considering its background and track records. But in this industry, it’s not about who does it first, but rather, who does it better. You’d agree with that one, right?

But what if I told you, the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 spots hardware specifications that seem even more superior than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, but ASUS has decided to price it even lower?! WHAT?! How is that even possible?! So we had the liberty to get a little insight and quick shots of the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 and what we saw was indeed mind-blowing!

This 6-inch Full View Display device has a Full HD+ (18:9) display at 2160 x 1080 resolution with 85% NTSC and 450 nits brightness. I started with this because this is exactly the first thing that will take your breath away. This is the first ever phone to also spot 1500:1 contrast ratio within this range and it also retains a 2.5D curve glass design for the ultimate finishing. At the back, it spots a dual rear camera setup with PDAF, where the second camera functions as depth sensing to deliver remarkable images (we will be elaborating more on this in another article in the future).

Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Octa-core CPU coupled to a 5,000mAh battery (unlike 4,000mAh in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5) and still maintains 181g weight similar to its rival. Don’t ask me how ASUS did crammed it all inside because I’m not done yet. We also have dual SIM + SD card (up to 2TB) setup so you don’t have to decide either or. It’s also running on stock Android Oreo 8.1 but is not opted into Google’s AndroidOne project because ASUS wanted to deliver more than what AndroidOne was limiting them to.

The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 will be available in 2 colors and 3 configurations:

  • 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage
  • 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage
  • 6GB RAM + 64GB Storage

This device is about to make history and will probably be the most wanted device of the year. Bet with me only once you have got your hands on the device. And mark your calendar, May 31st, 2018 is when this apocalypse will happen.

Pokdepinion: We will be taking this for a much in-depth ride later on, with all the added spices like we always do, but for now, there’s just too much to digest. The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 is definitely something you should highly consider if you are eyeing for a very good budget phone. Save up RM799 and I guarantee you, there will be change left behind. That’s all we were told, the rest to be unveiled on the launch itself. I know I’ll be there.
