Smartphones are becoming some sort of a status symbol. Holding a certain device with a certain bitten fruit on its back marks you as someone who can afford the better things in life. But even they might not be able to afford this sweet RM6999 luxury smartphone, the Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS. It too comes with a certain feature that differentiates you from the crowd, but it is more than just the Porsche Design logos on its front and back, but its triple lens setup.

Just like the comparatively affordable HUAWEI P20 Pro, the Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS touts the revolutionary Leica triple camera setup. A 40MP RGB sensor, 20MP monochome sensor and an 8MP sensor with telephoto lens was brought together to deliver the best AI photography HUAWEI has to offer.

Inside its glass and aluminium body is a 4000 mAh battery which powers the Kirin 970 AI chipset. The capable processor is joined by 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which incidentally is the same amount as what our Mi MIX 2 has under its ceramic hood. No ceramic here though. You can however charge wirelessly through the glass back, or use the blazing fast HUAWEI SuperCharge for a quick refuel before you hit the road.

The premium price tag brings with it a cutting-edge two fingerprint sensor configuration. You get one on the back, and one hidden under the 6″ 2K FullView OLED curved display. The rear fingerprint sensor can be used to unlock the device just like the one under the display, but it can also be set to access a second, secure space. You need not sacrifice speed to enjoy an under-display fingerprint sensor, nor do you have to feel left out when your mates start showing off their smartphones with under-display fingerprint sensors soon.

The Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS also stands out from the flood of notchy smartphones, simply by not having a notch. The camera is also placed along the center line, for perfect symmetry. This was clearly input from Porsche Design, as HUAWEI’s own designers came up with the P20 Pro with design cues which repulsed the director of Porsche Design.

What else does RM6999 get you, you ask? Well, aside from a device that delivers great photography, looks stunning and  is one of the few devices with an under-display fingerprint sensor? An exclusive VIP card, that offers access to an array of offerings from the likes of Tealive, Celebrity Fitness, iflix, Zouk, and more. You can only get the Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS in black in Malaysia, and there will only be a limited run of 200 units.
