The Kirin 810 proved to be a solid mid-range chipset, outperforming most of its peers in the segment. Put into a smartphone like the HUAWEI nova 7i, it delivers strong performance while also being very efficient in daily use. HUAWEI isn’t going to rest on their laurels though, as the Kirin 820 5G has just appeared on Geekbench as spotted by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, in what’s purportedly the HONOR 30s.

The Kirin 820 5G outperforms the Snapdragon 765G in Geekbench, while coming pretty close to the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L, according to the leak. When we crosscheck the scores, we actually see the Kirin 820 5G in the HONOR 30s scoring very close to the Snapdragon 855+ in the realme X2 Pro, which is really surprising. Needless to say, the Kirin 820 5G blows the Kirin 980 out of the water, which should be great news for budget-conscious smartphone shoppers who want flagship performance in the mid-range segment.

Interestingly, unlike most mid-range chipsets, the Kirin 820 5G will feature a 1+3+4 configuration, which is more commonly seen in flagship chipsets. This may have contributed to the impressive single-core score. You get one Cortex-A76 @ 2.36 GHz, three Cortex-A76 cores @ 2.23 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores @ 1.84 GHz. The GPU here is a Mali-G57 of unknown core count and clock speed.

It looks like HUAWEI will be able to bring better value for money in the mid-range once again with the Kirin 820 5G. Hopefully the devices featuring the Kirin 820 5G like the HONOR 30s will not be too pricey!

Pokdepinion: The Kirin 810 was the first mid-range chipset from HUAWEI that impressed me. Great to see that they aren’t planning on letting us down.
