Leaked renders of iPhone 8 case confirms vertical dual-camera system; fingerprint sensor under display is possible
Some iPhone 8 case renders has reached us, and we are here to confirm that the rumors of a vertically-oriented dual-camera setup are true. There is also no other perforation on the back, so if Apple were to maximize the display area with an edge-to-edge display like the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8 and yet not have the fingerprint sensor on the back of the device, the next iPhone will most probably have a fingerprint sensor under the display.
Adding a fingerprint sensor under the display is not an impossible task, but Samsung has shied away from implementing it in their recent flagship, instead opting to put it right beside the camera assembly. It would be interesting to see how Apple pulls this off. The dual-camera system comes as no surprise after the iPhone 7 Plus, but sometimes, you just have to ask, why fix something that isn’t broken? The offset vertical dual-camera design looks pretty bad and we definitely prefer the iPhone 7 Plus’ setup, having them side by side. Perhaps it’s meant to stand out from the increasing crowd of smartphones with horizontally-aligned dual lenses?
In any case (pun not intended), take a look at these images of a dummy iPhone 8. Note the lack of a home button here. Rumors also point towards wireless charging and AR goodies made possible with the dual-camera setup, but let’s take things one step at a time, shall we?
