LG Collaborates With Infineon To Introduce LG G8 ThinQ — Featuring A Front Facing ToF Camera
It seems like the folks at LG Electronics and Infineon Technologies AG has joined forces to introduce Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology in the upcoming LG G8 ThinQ smartphone.
Infineon’s REAL3 image sensor chip will be fitted in the smartphone, which is set to be unveiled in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress 2019. With ToF at the front camera, it will deliver a new level of front camera capability in a smartphone.
The ToF image sensor chip delivers more accurate measurement by capturing infrared light as it is reflected off the subject. Thanks to it, ToF is faster and more effective in ambient light, which lessens the workload on the application processor thus reducing power consumption.
While ToF is not something new in the market, the LG G8 ThinQ is the first to come up with a ToF camera in the front. Previously we saw the likes of the HONOR View20 and OPPO R17 Pro to come up with with the camera, albeit in the rear.
Pokdepinion: I wonder if it’s as good as they say it is. Well probably I can’t test it out since LG hasn’t been in the Malaysian market in the past few years.
