MediaTek have just announced their new 5G SoC, the Dimensity 720. The Dimensity 720 falls in the lower part of MediaTek’s Dimensity series and is designed to bring 5G capabilities to the lower mid-range section of the smartphone market.

MediaTek Dimensity 720

The 7nm Dimensity 720 chip is built with two Arm Cortex-A76 big cores operating at 2GHz in the octa-core CPU. It also features Arm Mali G57 graphics, LPDDR4X memory as well as UFS 2.2 storage. The processor is also equipped with a power efficient 5G modem that is built using MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technology which uses both network and content awareness intelligence to manage the modem’s operating mode in real-time to extend battery life.

Here are some of the other features the Dimensity 720 has:

  • Supports 90Hz high framerate displays.
  • Has MiraVision HDR10+ video playback which supports a variety of video features including dynamic range remapping.
  • Supports up to 64MP or 20+16MP dual cameras, plus a range of AI-camera enhancements powered by MediaTek’s integrated APU.
  • Integrated Voice Wakeup (VoW) to minimize power consumption of always-on voice assistants, and dual mic noise suppression so voice assistants can hear users more clearly even in noisy environments.

In terms of connectivity, the Dimensity 720 supports two carrier aggregation (2CC CA), Voice over New Radio (VoNR) and 5G and 4G dual SIM with dual standby (DSDS) to ensure the best possible connection. The SoC also supports both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) sub-6GHz networks.
