HUAWEI is teasing a foldable smartphone up its sleeve. While Samsung has already announced their Galaxy Fold, HUAWEI isn’t far behind. The HUAWEI Mate X which has been confirmed to be revealed later at 9pm tonight, HUAWEI might just be able to beat Samsung to the punch by releasing their foldable smartphone to the market earlier.

Before that, let’s take a look at what HUAWEI has to offer, as seen in this leaked banner. For starters, HUAWEI is adopting a design which has a large screen folding on the outside of the device. This might actually be detrimental for durability as the larger screen is exposed to the elements as compared to Samsung’s design which houses the larger screen on the inside fold.

It does however allow HUAWEI to boast a much higher screen-to-body ratio when the device is folded. As you may have seen, the Galaxy Fold has massive bezels on its outer screen. Also, the HUAWEI Mate X might end up being cheaper than Samsung’s implementation as HUAWEI only uses one OLED panel while Samsung has to use two.

Samsung announced their Galaxy Fold in the Samsung Unpacked event on 21st February. However the Galaxy Fold will only be sold starting 26th April. HUAWEI has a good chance of one-upping Samsung by releasing the HUAWEI Mate X to the market earlier than Samsung starts selling their Galaxy Fold.

Which design do you prefer for a foldable smartphone? The Galaxy Fold or the HUAWEI Mate X?

Pokdepinion: I am all for HUAWEI’s design if it allows me to use the OLED display even when it’s closed. Wouldn’t mind some burn-in if I can have a customized design on the back of my phone that I can change at my whim and fancy.
