The HUAWEI Mate 20 X is due for a massive upgrade, with HUAWEI announcing it as their first 5G smartphone. With the HUAWEI Mate X not due till mid-2019, HUAWEI needs something to go up against the myriad of 5G-enabled devices by other brands.

The HUAWEI Mate 20 X is apparently HUAWEI’s choice instead of the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro, despite the latter packing more innovative hardware. Perhaps HUAWEI decided the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro already has more than enough on its plate?

Huawei Mate 20 X Review - The Titan That Stands Above All

With this upgrade, the HUAWEI Mate 20 X is quite possibly the largest 5G smartphone in the market. While Samsung’s S10 5G comes in at 6.7″, the HUAWEI Mate 20 X sports a massive 7.2″ OLED display. It also touts a huge 5000 mAh battery, perfect for supporting the additional Balong 5000 5G modem.

There are no other details about what other hardware has been refreshed aside from the addition of a new Balong 5000 5G modem. Perhaps more RAM? More storage? Since there is a HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, it doesn’t seem to far fetched.

HUAWEI Mate 20 X Specifications

  • Kirin 980, octa-core up to 2.6 GHz, 7nm FinFET
  • Mali-G76MP10 @ 720 MHz
  • 6GB LPDDR4X
  • 128GB UFS 2.1 storage (expandable via NM card)
