OnePlus has officially announced their 3-year partnership with Hasselblad to produce the next generation of cameras for their upcoming OnePlus flagships. The first device from them to feature Hasselblad’s touch will be the OnePlus 9 series, which is launching later this month.

They even have a fancy new name for the camera system that features Hasselblad’s input — Hasselblad Camera for Mobile. For now, they are starting off with color tuning and sensor calibration, although there are plans to expand their partnership to encompass more aspects of the camera experience.

OnePlus and Hasselblad has reportedly jointly developed Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad which is supposed to deliver more accurate and natural looking photos. There’s also going to be the new Hasselblad Pro Mode that is supposed to provide new levels of controls for pro photographers.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series camera

OnePlus will not be the first Chinese smartphone brand to partner up with a camera maker to bring a better imaging experience to their devices. However unlike HUAWEI and Leica’s partnership which saw the two companies collaborate on both the hardware and software aspects of the cameras in the HUAWEI P series and HUAWEI Mate series flagships, OnePlus will apparently mainly focus on the software front with Hasselblad for the OnePlus 9.

Speaking of which, on the hardware end, the OnePlus 9 series will sport the custom Sony IMX789 sensor which will provide for 12-bit RAW images to really take advantage of the Hasselblad Pro Mode. If you are interested, stay tuned for the OnePlus 9 series launch this 23rd March.

Pokdepinion: I am pretty sure this partnership will be used to justify the increasingly exorbitant price tags of the OnePlus flagships…
