2018 has been an amazing year, with manufacturers trying their utmost best to surprise us, just as we are getting used to flagships just upping their game by slapping in a new chipset and calling it a day. Of course, there are manufacturers who are still trying to do this, and we honored them in our #Pokdepicks Best Smartphones of 2018. But what’s really cool are those who push the boundaries of what’s possible even when the budget is limited. Here’s our top value smartphones for 2018.

POCOPHONE F1

Pocophone F1 camera

The ultimate value device of this year, will of course, go to the POCOPHONE F1. The POCOPHONE F1 made waves when it was first launched in India, bringing flagship specifications down to a price we are more accustomed to paying for a mid-range device. A Snapdragon 845 chipset, a flagship-class Sony Exmor RS IMX 363, which is shared with the best single-camera smartphone out there, mind you, and of course, a simple design which is made of polycarbonate but doesn’t feel cheap at all. All that for just RM1299? An absolute steal. Also it made it into both our #Pokdepicks shortlists because it was just that good.

Realme 2 Pro

The Realme 2 Pro is the highest specced smartphone below RM1000. Yes, it usually goes for RM1099, but every week, it is available on Shopee for just RM999. It packs a Snapdragon 660 AIE, 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. That’s better than most devices that cost less than RM2000 can offer! The rest of the Realme 2 Pro are decidedly mid-range, but to be able to offer such premium specifications in a device this affordable is a feat in its own.

Realme C1

For the sub-RM500 segment, the Realme C1 takes the cake. A Snapdragon 450 chipset, a large 6.3″ display and a pretty decent dual-camera setup behind just takes the cake. It’s usual price might put it up against some pretty strong competition like the Xiaomi Redmi 6, but just like the Realme 2 Pro, every week you can get it for just RM399 on the weekly Lazada flash sale. Also did we mention that you can play PUBG Mobile pretty well on this affordable little smartphone?

Honorary mention: Xiaomi Mi A2

Another smartphone that we’d like to mention is Xiaomi’s Mi A2. For a proper Android One device, it is one of the most affordable ones that you can get in the market at just RM999 from launch date and now you can get it at just RM899, absolutely a bargain. Being a mid-range device, it almost ticks in every department that you’d want in a smartphone. Packing a Snapdragon 660 AIE inside, it definitely offers a capable SoC. The camera configuration is also a decent one to add to that.
