Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Chipset for Mid-Range Smartphones

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2: What You Need to Know

The new midrange chipset offers a notable upgrade over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, although it isn’t quite as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. According to Qualcomm, the CPU will deliver a performance improvement of over 50%, with speeds of up to 2.91GHz.

Additionally, it offers improvements in GPU performance, increasing it by two times, and power efficiency by 13%. Among the brands that have announced their use of this chipset are Redmi and Realme. They have integrated on-device AI across the entire platform, leading to over twice the AI performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and 40% better per-watt performance.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 offers a range of gaming features, including AI Super Resolution capable of upscaling game visuals and photos from 1080p to 4K resolution. Volumetric rendering, adding particle graphics such as fog and smoke, and auto variable rate shading are other gaming features that can boost performance and power by rendering content that’s in focus at full resolution and limiting the background of a scene to a lower resolution. It’s claimed that the Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX will deliver lossless music streaming and lag-free gaming audio.

The chipset also offers impressive photo and video capabilities, supporting photo captures up to 200MP and HDR video capture with triple exposure from two cameras simultaneously. With 18-bit Triple ISP support, the chipset makes it easier to capture better images in very low light. Qualcomm says devices using the new chip can capture 30 images and blend the best parts of them into a single shot, providing brighter, clearer, and more colorful photos.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 offers impressive connectivity features, supporting 4G and 5G dual SIMs, download speeds of up to 4.4 Gbps over a data network, and download speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps over WiFi, thanks to the new X62 5G modem.

Pokdepinion: With an improvement in performance and power efficiency on top of the features, I’m genuinely excited to see how the midrange smartphone market will spice up after this. Hopefully, the prices won’t suddenly go sky high either.
