The legal battle between Apple and Qualcomm is continuing with a new claim that revolves around infringing patented technology on Snapdragon processors.

It would seem that the legal battle between Apple and Qualcomm is far from over. Now, there’s a new claim that Qualcomm is infringing upon Apple’s patent, specifically with Qualcomm’s higher end processors.

According to Reuters, Apple is claiming that Qualcomm is infringing on at least 8 battery life patents with their Snapdragon processors. The processors in question are the Snapdragon 820 and Snapdragon 800, which aren’t their most recent chipsets around. To be precise, it’s their flagship line for high end smartphones from 2016.

The patent cover technology that helps a processor draw as little power as possible and also allow it to quickly increase / decrease its power usage. Supposedly, this is Apple’s counterattack against Qualcomm as they claimed that Apple was in violation of 6 of their patents before, which was also related to battery life. This could actually get the iPhones banned.

Apple is filing these new patent infringement claims in an attempt to get Qualcomm’s patent claims dismissed. Apple claims that they began filing for battery life patents long before Qualcomm went after its own battery life patents, and it says that Qualcomm’s infringement claims appear “to be a blatant effort to take credit for the innovation of others.”

The company’s filing goes on to claim that Qualcomm selectively gained patents that covered technologies that might be inside Apple products “much like a common patent troll.”

Apart from whatever that has been said already, both companies have not divulged more information on the matter. Clearly, this is just a small legal battle in a much larger-scale war that’s happening between the 2 companies. We expect to hear more on the issue soon.

Pokdepinion: Well, can’t really say we’re surprised that it’s continuing. We’re just hoping that it doesn’t end up too messy or cause too much collateral damage for the rest of the industry.
