The realme 6 series brings some pretty significant upgrades over the realme 5 series, which were just announced in October last year. How significant, you ask? Well for starters realme actually gave the duo FHD+ displays, something which was truly a handicap on the realme 5. But there’s more to the display.

realme 6

The realme 6 gets the same 6.5″ display as its predecessor, but as mentioned earlier, now comes with a much better FHD+ resolution. realme also threw in a 90 Hz display, which makes the realme 6 the first mid-range device we know of with a high refresh rate display. It’s not an AMOLED panel though, as realme managed to source 90 Hz LCD panels for the realme 6 series.

Under the hood we also see a huge step forward, with realme opting for the MediaTek Helio G90T. The chipset debuted in the Redmi Note 8 Pro here in Malaysia and has proven itself to be quite a strong contender despite some stigma against the Taiwanese chipmaker. The realme 6 gets massively improved RAM and storage options too, with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage options available. The battery has shrunk significantly though, down to just 4300 mAh, although it now supports 30W Flash Charge to lessen the impact of the smaller battery.

While realme only went up to 48MP in the realme 5 series, the realme 6 series gets 64MP cameras. The realme 6 packs a 64MP f/1,8 main camera along with an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera, a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera and a 2MP B&W depth sensor.

realme 6 Specs

  • Helio G90T, octa-core up to 2.05 GHz, 12nm FinFET
  • Up to 8GB RAM
  • Up to 128GB UFS 2.1 storage (expandable via microSD)
  • 6.5″ FHD+ 90 Hz LCD display
  • 64MP f/1.8 + 8MP f/2.3 ultra-wide + 2MP f/2.4 macro + 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor
  • 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera
  • 4300 mAh battery, 30W Flash Charge
  • 4GB + 64GB: INR 12 999 (~RM733)
    6GB + 128GB: INR 14 999 (~RM846)
    8GB + 128GB: INR 15 999 (~RM903)

realme 6 Pro

Interestingly, the realme 6 Pro actually touts what might be a weaker chipset than the realme 6. The Snapdragon 720G is supposed to be a weaker chip than the Snapdragon 730G, and the Helio G90T has proven itself to deliver better gaming performance than the Snapdragon 730G. Regardless, users do tend to have a preferences for Snapdragon chipsets, and maybe that’s exactly what realme is banking on.

Aside from the chipset, much is similar under the hood. You also get configurations ranging up to 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The battery size is also the same at 4300 mAh with the same 30W Flash Charge technology. You do get a marginally bigger screen to power though, with the realme 6 Pro touting a 90 Hz 6.6″ FHD+ display.

Over on the back you get a camera setup that’s almost identical to the realme X50 Pro 5G. And I say almost because the realme 6 Pro actually has a fully functional quad-camera setup, with the fourth member being a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera, instead of a 2MP depth sensor in the realme X50 Pro 5G.

realme 6 Pro Specs

  • Snapdragon 720G, octa-core up to 2.3 GHz, 12nm FinFET
  • Up to 8GB RAM
  • Up to 128GB UFS 2.1 storage (expandable via microSD)
  • 6.6″ FHD+ 90 Hz LCD display
  • 64MP f/1.8 + 8MP f/2.3 ultra-wide + 12MP f/2.5 telephoto + 2MP f/2.4 macro
  • 16MP f/2.0 + 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide selfie camera
  • 4300 mAh battery, 30W Flash Charge
  • 6GB + 64GB: INR 16 999 (~RM959)
    6GB + 128GB: INR 17 999 (~RM1015)
    8GB + 128GB: INR 18 999 (~RM1072)

With both devices already certified in SIRIM since last month, a Malaysian launch should be imminent. Which variant do you think realme Malaysia will bring in, and how much do you think they will price it for? Let us know!

Pokdepinion: Whoa the realme 6 series is seriously looking very interesting, especially when it comes to their cameras!
