Xiaomi has taken to social media to confirm the chipset in the Redmi Note 8 2021. It is going to be the Helio G85, which debuted in Xiaomi’s lineup in the Redmi Note 9. The original Redmi Note 8 was powered by the Snapdragon 665, which means that fans of the Redmi Note 8’s design will be in for an upgrade with the Redmi Note 8 2021, albeit a relatively minor one.

Speaking of which, it seems that Xiaomi will be reusing the Redmi Note 8’s chassis. Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 2021 will tout a 6.3″ Dot Drop display on the front, and a 48MP quad camera setup on its back. This is essentially Xiaomi mashing the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 9 into one device and calling it the Redmi Note 8 2021.

As I have previously mentioned, I have no idea why is Xiaomi reviving the Redmi Note 8 series with this model. I mean, I understand that the Redmi Note 8 series was their best-selling lineup, but do we really need a Redmi Note 8 2021, when we could easily just call it the Redmi Note 10 Fan Edition, or Redmi Note 10 Commemorative Edition? That would probably be less confusing, at least in terms of naming.

Or even better yet, just release a special edition of the current Redmi Note 10 series with a limited edition case or something. That would be better than rehashing old designs and specifications just for yet another addition to an increasingly cluttered mid-range lineup.

With that said, the Redmi Note 8 2021 should be relatively affordable as compared to the current Redmi Note 10 lineup, since it is just reusing old components from Xiaomi’s parts bin. Xiaomi has yet to announce an official launch date, but do stay tuned as it should be announced pretty soon.

Pokdepinion: I wonder if this Redmi Note 8 2021 will be priced like a member of the Redmi series, instead of the Redmi Note series.
