Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Brings Notable Improvements To The Table

The push towards making foldables the new mainstream device continues with the Korean giant’s latest headlining act, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. At first glance, it looks pretty much the same but in truth, there are some notable improvements from its predecessor.

For starters, it’s powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is faster and more efficient than the older Snapdragon 888 that’s prone to overheating. The cover display has also changed as it’s slightly wider and easier to use. Naturally, this also means that the main display has gotten slightly wider as well with slimmer bezels. It has also upgraded to Gorilla Glass Victus+ for improved durability.

The camera system has seen a significant upgrade as it finally matches up with the current generation flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. This means that you don’t have to sacrifice camera performance just to move to a foldable anymore, and it’s made even better since you can make use of Flex Mode for a more versatile shooting experience.

Other things remain relatively the same including 120Hz adaptive refresh rate (albeit more efficient), multitasking capabilities (improved via software update), Armor Aluminum body, IPX8 water resistance, 4,400mAh battery, and S Pen support but with no built-in slot for it. While some may question why there is no increase in battery capacity, it’s great that they managed to fit in all of these and still shaved off some of its weight to 263g, making it easier to hold.

It’s being said that the reason for not bring massive changes in this iteration is due to higher manufacturing costs and to push this further into the mainstream, hence the improved aftersales support. Likely next year when the costs have gone down, we might see drastic changes in both foldables.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 will have a retail price from RM6,799 to RM8,299 with warranty now going for 2 years and free screen protector change up to 3 times in case it peels off. There will be a special trade-in program which guarantees 55% savings when trading in, instant rebate, and you can trade up to five devices.

Pokdepinion: Unfortunately, some leaks were incorrect after all since we didn’t get a built-in S Pen slot but hey, it’s still a good upgrade nonetheless, especially if you’re coming from a non-foldable device.
