Seems that Samsung is rumoured to be in talks with Olympus about working together on future Samsung smartphone cameras. According to leaker @heyitsyogesh on Twitter, Samsung is looking to partner up with the Japanese camera brand, to develop camera modules for their upcoming smartphones capable of producing high-quality pictures.

Samsung x Olympus phones incoming?

Olympus is one of the leading camera brands that manufacture optical and reprography products. If this rumour is true, then Samsung will be the latest smartphone maker to partner with a camera brand such as with OnePlus’ partnership with Hasselblad, Nokia and vivo’s partnership with ZEISS, and HUAWEI’s partnership with Leica. The tipster also claims that we can potentially see the fruits of Samsung and Olympus’ partnership on a future special edition of the Samsung Galaxy Fold device or the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

@heyitsyogesh claim has also been corroborated by another serial tipster on Weibo. Ice Universe, who has provided leaks that for the most part turned out to be accurate, posted on Weibo that Samsung is indeed looking to partner with Olympus to develop future smartphone camera modules.

As it stands, neither companies have put out statements concerning the potential partnership rumours. Until then, we’re going to have to take this little rumour with a huge pinch of salt, at least until a proper statement is out.

Pokdepinion: I honestly believe that Samsung’s existing cameras are good enough and don’t need something like this. However, I do understand the need for them to try and push the envelope when it comes to smartphone photography and what better way to do that than with a reputable brand like Olympus?
