While earlier rumors have pointed out that the Snapdragon 865+ won’t exist, here we are. The Snapdragon 865+ arrives as the better binned variant of the Snapdragon 865, with higher clocks on both its fastest CPU core and its GPU.

Basically Qualcomm overclocked the fastest core of the Snapdragon 865 from 2.84 GHz to 3.1 GHz and called it the Snapdragon 865+. The newer chip also gets a higher-clocked Adreno 650 that will deliver around 10% better performance. Overall, 10% extra grunt from the CPU and 10% extra graphics horsepower might not sound all that interesting, but this is the first mobile chipset to break the 3.0 GHz barrier, and achieve 3.1 GHz at that.

Only the “Prime” core gets the higher clocks, the rest of the cores remain at 2.42 GHz for the performance cores and 1.8 GHz for the efficiency cores. On top of the slight bump to performance, the Snapdragon 865+ will also be compatible with the FastConnect 6900 WiFi chips, which will bring WiFi 6E compatibility to the next generation of devices.

Snapdragon 865+ Specs

  • 1 x 3.1 GHz Kryo 585 Prime (Cortex-A77-based) + 3 x 2.42 GHz Kryo 585 Gold (Cortex-A77-based) + 4 x 1.8 GHz Kryo 585 Silver
  • Adreno 650
  • Hexagon 698 DSP
  • Dual Spectra 480 ISP (up to 200MP single camera, 64MP with ZSL)
  • Snapdragon X55 5G modem (7 Gbps down, 3 Gbps up)
  • 7nm (N7P)

ASUS ROG Phone 3 (1)

The first phones to feature the Snapdragon 865+ include the ROG Phone 3 and the much-rumored Lenovo Legion gaming smartphone. With the ROG Phone 3’s launch happening this 22nd July, the ROG Phone 3 will be the world’s first smartphone to debut with the overclocked chipset.
