Tell me when was the last time you saw a VGA connector on a laptop. And from that, when have you seen a laptop that weighs less than a kilogram with one? Well VAIO just released the VAIO SX12 so those who need a VGA port and an ultralight laptop will finally have a choice without having to resort to dongles.

There’s a pretty nice assortment of ports too aside from the VGA port, especially when you consider that in addition to being an ultralight, it’s also a really tiny laptop with a 12.5″ screen with pretty minimal bezels. VAIO actually crammed a 12.5″ screen into a footprint less than a sheet of A4 paper, so to have three full-sized USB ports and a USB-C port is really good. And there’s also a HDMI port too in case you want a more modern display output. Oh there’s LAN too for good measure.

The VAIO SX12 will be powered by either a 6C/12T Core i7 10710U or a 4C/8T Core i5 10210U. It will only be offered with 8GB LPDDR3 RAM and 256GB of storage, where you will see the Core i7 variant packing a NVMe drive while the Core i5 versions only come with a SATA SSD. VAIO promises up to 13.5 hours of battery life, although there’s no mention of the battery capacity. Charging can be done over the USB-C port or a proprietary power adapter, which is nice.

The entire package weighs less than 906 grams, thanks to a carbon fiber lid. VAIO used a uni-directional carbon fiber layers stacked alternately to ensure that the lid retains excellent structural rigidity while being lighter than magnesium alloy designs. The lid’s hinges also raise the laptop off the surface of the table for a more ergonomic typing experience and also for improved intake efficiency.

Priced at 197 800 JPY (~RM7443) to 242 800 JPY (~RM9137) depending on the configuration of your choice, you can get the VAIO SX12 in black, silver, brown, pink and red, the latter which is a special edition model. It’s not cheap, but you get a VGA port.

Pokdepinion: If this was affordable it would be an excellent laptop for students because universities are still stuck on VGA for some reason.
