Created by Xiaomi, powered by Google

Xiaomi just released their latest device called the Mi A1 in India earlier today. So what’s different with the Mi A1? Well for starters it has a brand new camera setup with dual 12MP cameras on the back, it has a 5.5 inch Full HD display, 4GB RAM and powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and is very similar to XIaomi’s recent Mi 5X. Here’s the kicker though, while the Mi 5X runs MIUI, this is the first Xiaomi device to come with pure, stock Android.

Yes the Mi A1 is running vanilla Android Nougat 7.1.2 and not Xiaomi’s own MIUI software. It is also the Chinese smartphone maker’s first Android One phone where the software is designed wholly by Google without all the extra side dishes usually installed by other smartphone brands. The Mi A1 should provide with a clean and simple Android experience that stays secure and fresh with at least two years of OS upgrades to the latest version of Android with Google promising an Android Oreo upgrade before the end of the year.

Design-wise, the Mi A1 has a thin 7.3mm all metal body and weighs just 165g. It features a fingerprint sensor at the back, a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom and uses USB type-C. Now let’s talk about the Mi A1’s hardware. The Mi A1 comes with a 5.5 inch Full HD display and is rocking an octa core Snapdragon 625 with 14nm FinFET processor, together with 4GB RAM, 64GB worth of internal storage and powered by slightly small 3080 mAh battery.

As mentioned before, the camera setup on the Mi A1 uses dual 12MP rear cameras, with one 12MP wide angle lens and the other utilising a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. Both cameras work together to create those fancy bokeh Portrait shots that are all the rage these days.

Beauty mode has also been improved with a smart filter that accurately detects and accentuates hundreds of facial points and features. The primary rear camera sensor uses large 1.25µm pixels to capture brighter and sharper photos in dim environments.
