Xiaomi has finally announced the Mi 11 in China. Unlike last year, there’s no Mi 11 Pro this time around. Still, Xiaomi definitely didn’t skimp on the hardware that they cramped into the Mi 11. As previously announced, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is one of the first smartphones to pack the latest Snapdragon 888 chipset, Qualcomm’s first flagship 5G chipset with an integrated 5G modem.

Record-breaking display

Xiaomi Mi 11 screen calibration

Another highlight is the amazing display that Xiaomi used in the Mi 11. It now touts a 6.81″ AMOLED display that sports not only a blazing fast 120Hz refresh rate, but also an insanely sharp QHD+ (3200 x 1440) resolution. Improving the overall user experience is a 480Hz touch response, making for a huge upgrade over Xiaomi’s last-gen devices. The displays are pre-calibrated from the factory to a Delta E <1, and supports HDR10+ with its insanely high 1500 nit brightness.

XIaomi Mi 11 screen curve

The display reportedly broke 13 records, netting it a DisplayMate A+ rating from the leading authority in displays. Last but not least, the Gorilla Glass Victus used here promises better durability than previous iterations. The glass features a quad-curve finish, meaning that the top and bottom edges also feature a smoother curvature to allow for more intuitive swiping gestures.

Great sound

Xiaomi Mi 11 harman kardon audio

Xiaomi worked with Harman/Kardon to further refine the audio of the Mi 11. While the Xiaomi Mi 10 series were already lauded for their amazing audio quality, the Mi 11 will probably take it to the next level. The speakers on the Mi 11 are also optimally positioned on the top and bottom edges, ensuring that you get a proper balanced stereo sound field, instead of having one speaker pointed towards you and one away from you.

A rather uninspired camera setup?

Moving over to the rear, there’s a pretty sizeable camera hump which only hosts three cameras. The main camera is a 108MP f/1.85 one, which might be a bummer for those hoping to see the OmniVision OV48C here. It even seems to have lost its OIS capability, despite having a smaller aperture than the 108MP camera in the Mi 10 series.

Xiaomi Mi 11 camera

This is paired up with a 13MP f/2.4 ultra-wide angle camera and a 5MP telephoto macro lens. While I do like the telephoto macro lens in the POCO F2 Pro, the overall setup here does seem rather weak for Xiaomi’s chart-topping flagship, as it appears too similar to yesteryear’s Mi 10, with the exception of the new macro camera. Over on the front there’s a 20MP selfie camera in a punch hole.

55W fast charging, and the charger is included

We are in such a weird time that having a charger in the box is actually worth mentioning. But yes, while Xiaomi aims to “pack lightly”, they are putting the option to go green in the consumers’ hands by offering a version of the Mi 11 sans charger, as well as one with a 55W GaN charger in the box, at the exact same price. Now that’s exactly what I was expecting from Xiaomi!

Xiaomi Mi 11 fast charging

On that note, the Xiaomi Mi 11 supports 55W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. If you are feeling extremely benevolent to your friends who don’t get a charger with their recent smartphone, the Mi 11 also supports wireless reverse charging at 10W. It has an average-sized 4600mAh battery, but it should suffice to keep the lights on for quite some time, given that the Snapdragon 888 is more efficient than last year’s Snapdragon 865.

Xiaomi Mi 11 colors

The Xiaomi Mi 11 is available in a total of five color options, with White, Black, Blue as well as Smoke Purple and Khaki, which come with a Vegan Leather back. There’s also a Mi 11 Lei Jun Signature Edition that sports 3D textured glass and Lei Jun’s signature on the back. This is the only variant that’s not available in the lower capacities, and will only be available with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Pokdepinion: Hopefully the global pricing follows the China pricing closely! Also I would like to commend Xiaomi on the move with the charger! Well played!
