The Xiaomi Mi 9T was an awesome mid-range device, with a great slew of specifications that looks really awesome. But since the Xiaomi Mi 9T is also known as the Redmi K20 in India, and there is a Redmi K20 Pro, everyone was expecting a Mi 9T Pro to also come into Malaysia. And now it’s finally here.

Well, not exactly here yet. The Xiaomi Mi 9T will only start selling this 30th August 2019, with an additional Pearl White option to choose from. The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro comes in exactly the same design as the Xiaomi Mi 9T. So you get the beautiful flashy back and also a popup camera. The insides are totally different though.

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Specs

  • Snapdragon 855, octa-core up to 2.84 GHz, 7nm FinFET
  • Adreno 640
  • Up to 128GB UFS 2.1 storage
  • 6.39″ FHD+ AMOLED display
  • 48MP f/1.8 + 13MP f/2.4 ultra wide-angle + 8MP f/2.4 telephoto
  • 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera, popup camera
  • MIUI 10 (based on Android 9 Pie)
  • 4000 mAh battery, 27W Fast Charge
  • 6GB + 64GB: RM1599
    6GB + 128GB: RM1799

For those of you who have been following the Mi 9T closely, you will know what the Mi 9T Pro improves upon. For those who don’t, here’s for you. You get a flagship chipset, a better Sony IMX586 sensor instead of the Sony IMX582, and also support for 27W Charge Turbo. The charger is sold separately though.

The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro poses as an amazing alternative to the Xiaomi Mi 9 as well, given how close their specifications are. The former offers a larger battery and a headphone jack, all while being slightly more affordable. Meanwhile, the Mi 9 has better auxiliary cameras and wireless charging, so its a pretty fair fight.

Looking at the situation of the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro versus the Xiaomi Mi 9, it somewhat reminds me of the POCOPHONE F1 against the Xiaomi Mi 8. Priced cheaper, yet offering a pretty similar feature set. In this case, the cost-cutting measures are very much less apparent though, as you still get a beautiful glass body and an AMOLED display panel. Pretty good stuff.
