Yesterday we attended the Galaxy Tab S2 launch event, and the name S2 reminded me of Samsung’s flagship many years back which I believe was one of the most popular Android smartphones at that time. Speaking of which, the Galaxy Tab S2 is leaps and bounds more advanced than the previous device with the S2 moniker. The Galaxy Tab S2 succeeds the Galaxy Tab S as the flagship in Samsung’s array of tablets.

The Galaxy Tab S2 will be available in two variants, a 9.7″ and 8.0″ version. Both Galaxy Tabs share the same specifications except for screen size. Even the resolution (2048 x 1536) is the same on both tablets. SuperAMOLED displays ensures stunning visuals can be experienced on the tablets. The processor within the tablets are no other than the Samsung in-house Exynos 5433 paired with 3GB RAM, a configuration which we have previously seen used to good effect in the Galaxy Note 4. 32GB internal memory comes standard and is expandable via microSD. LTE support also comes standard on these tablets. All of these are packed in a svelte body only 5.6mm thick, for both sizes. A fingerprint sensor helps you keep your tablets contents private and secure.

Galaxy Tab S2 productivityBesides the usual media consumption, Samsung is encouraging users to be productive with their latest tablets. As such they have designed a Book Cover Keyboard which will be available for the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 later on. Samsung also pre-installed Microsoft Office applications to facilitate working on the move.

Galaxy Tab S2 media consumptionAll work and no play makes jack a dull boy. Understanding that age old adage, Samsung has preloaded iflix and Samsung Milk Music, allowing you to enjoy entertainment as well on this tablet. Samsung is also offering a complimentary one-year subscription to iflix for every purchase of the new Galaxy Tab S2. If the screen isn’t big enough, you can wirelessly cast the screen onto a compatible display.

The 8.0″ Galaxy Tab S2 will be selling for RM1,699 (inclusive of GST), while the bigger 9.7″ one will be retailing for RM1,999 (inclusive of GST). The tablets support LTE and will be available in three colors, black, white and gold. Both devices will go on sale in the local market on August 14.

Pokdepinion: The Galaxy Tab S2 is a premium device through and through and from a hands-on experience with the devices at the launching, the Tab S2 is a powerful device capable of both productivity and entertainment. We do have a review sample in our hands for further testing, so stay tuned for our detailed review of the Tab S2!
