Xiaomi has teased a global launch event that’s happening this 15th September, and we do believe that it will be the Xiaomi Pad 5’s global launch. Or it might also be including the Xiaomi 11T series, although that might be coming later, with rumors pointing towards a 23rd September launch event for the smartphone.

For the uninitiated, the Xiaomi Pad 5 looks set to be a great tablet, with narrow bezels all around its 11″ 2.5K 120Hz display. Audio is handled by four speakers along the edge, promising a great listening experience. There’s also support for stylus input, as well as a keyboard dock/case that will let you work on it more comfortably.

Performance is courtesy of the Snapdragon 860, which is still potent enough for 2021. The top configuration comes with 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, which should be plenty for even the most ardent multitasker. There’s also a Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro that replaces the chipset for a Snapdragon 870 and offers up to 8GB LPDDR5 instead.

Xiaomi Pad 5 Specs and Price

  • Snapdragon 860, octa-core up to 2.96GHz, 7nm
  • 6GB LPDDR4X RAM
  • Up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage
  • 11″ 2.5K (2560 x 1600) 120Hz LCD display, TrueTone, HDR10, P3 color gamut
  • 13MP rear camera
  • 8MP selfie camera
  • 8720mAh battery, 33W fast charging
  • 6GB+128GB: 1999 CNY (~RM1307)
    6GB+256GB: 2299 CNY (~RM1504)

Global pricing remains to be seen, but the pricing in China does put the Xiaomi Pad 5 at a a very interesting price point that will see it compete against mid-range tablets with a flagship-class chipset under the hood. Obviously, global pricing will usually be slightly higher. In any case, it should be coming to Malaysia very soon, as it has already passed SIRIM.

The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

Less is known about the Xiaomi 11T series, although there has been rumors of there being two models, with the Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro. Yes, they won’t be called the Xiaomi Mi 11T series, because of Xiaomi’s rebranding exercise. Rumors have hinted towards absolutely killer specifications in the Xiaomi 11T Pro, including a Snapdragon 888 chipset, 120W fast charging and also a 120Hz OLED display.

Meanwhile the Xiaomi 11T is slated to pack a MediaTek chipset, and probably some pared back specifications to allow it to slot under the Pro variant, both in terms of features and pricing. Both the Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro has passed SIRIM, so you can expect to see them here in Malaysia soon enough.

In any case, the wait isn’t much longer. We will be finding out more about these devices as we get closer to the 15th September launch event, or whether it will actually be these devices that will be unveiled at the event. Stay tuned!
