We knew about it earlier when we went to Singapore and finally it’s here in Malaysia. Sony Bravia’s New 4K HDR TV Lineup.

Not too long ago, Sony invited us to Singapore to check out their new TV lineup with 4K HDR technology. It’s one of the best innovations in TVs that we’ve seen in a long time. Now, it’s finally here in Malaysia, and we went to check it out again.

Sony Malaysia Expands 4K HDR TV Lineup

Sony Malaysia Bravia OLED TV

Today, Sony Malaysia announced new 4K HDR television series designed to deliver even wider brightness range and higher contrast by making use of 4K HDR content combined with their unique image processors and display device technologies.

For those of you who aren’t aware, 4K HDR is the new benchmark in video signals, carrying much more information about brightness compared to conventional means. With it, you won’t experience loss in colour, especially in bright areas of content that you are viewing, up to 4K resolution.

HDR is one of the biggest innovations in TVs, especially with the PS4 Pro introducing it as a new feature to enhance gaming experience. For the new TVs, it’s made possible with the help of 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme, which is being utilized by the flagship Z series.

Alongside that, the new A1 series features the Acoustic Surface technology that lends to cutting-edge design by doing away with conventional speakers. How so? It actually emits sound from the screen itself.

Furthermore, with the latest in OLED technology, Sony has taken one step further by providing not only the truest blacks that OLED is known for, but also authentic colour, blur-less image, and a wide viewing angle. It’s called Bravia OLED. It’s also thanks to OLED that the A1 series is capable of producing sound from the screen itself with the Acoustic Surface technology.

Sony will also introduce the new X93E series featuring the Slim Backlight Drive+, an improved LED backlight technology allowing more precise and accurate local diming control compared to Slim Backlight Drive. With its quad-edge LED structure and X-tended Dynamic Range PRO local dimming and boosting technology, it brings superior brightness and exceptional contrast.

Both X93E and A1 series will support Dolby Vision, the HDR format from Dolby Laboratories, which when paired with Sony’s unique technologies further enriches the visual experience.

First up by Sony Malaysia is the A1 series. Yes, this is the one where the sound is produced directly on the screen itself with its Acoustic Surface technology. It utilizes OLED as display device, where it has 8 million self-illuminating pixels that can shut off by itself to give the truest blacks.

It is powered by the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme, providing the ultimate 4K HDR viewing experience.. It features vibrant, expanded colour thanks to its TRILUMINOS Display. It also has Android TV so you don’t need an extra set-top box to get your viewing experiences started. It also means you get to access apps like Netflix.

Sony Malaysia also highlighted the Slim Backlight Drive+ with a unique quad-edge LED structure, which allows for precise local dimming control to take full advantage of the OLED technology.

It has Chromecast built-in so you can easily send content from your smartphone or tablet to the TV without having the dongle attached to it. For some countries, the wall mount bracket with swivel will be included, so you might want to check on this before buying one.

Now this one uses the 4K HDR Processor X1 (the non-Extreme version), so you probably want to check this one out first before testing out the BRAVIA A1 really. Don’t underestimate it, it’s still a very good TV, but take it this way – Sony gave you a chance to burn less of your pockets with this one.

The 75″ X85E TV will be priced at RM16,999 while the 65″ variant will be priced at RM9,999. Both of these TVs will be available from May 2017 onwards via Sony Malaysia.

The X70E uses Motionflow XR enrusing smooth and sharp details even in fast-moving sequences. This innovative technology creates and inserts extra frames between the original ones. Kinda like how your G-Sync gaming monitor does.

This one is for the clumsy ones, I suppose. It comes with X-Protection PRO that enhances Sony TV’s durability with four protection features to guard against dust, lightning, surge and humidity.

The 49″, and 40″ W66E TVs will be priced at RM2,799, and RM2,199 respectively. Both of these will be available from May 2017 onwards via Sony Malaysia.

Now, if you have enough cash to spend and you like it bigger and better, then this one is for you. 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme, Backlight Master Drive, X-tended Dynamic Range PRO, Android TV, it has it all. I mean, if bringing back cinema to home is your idea, this is your weapon. It’s really huge (that’s what she said) at 100″.

The 75″, and 65″ Z9D TVs will be priced at RM29,999, and RM23,999 respectively. No price has been listed for the 100″ variant. The TVs are already up for sale via Sony Malaysia.

Pokdepinion: As we mentioned before, we already knew about these TVs when we went to Singapore. It’s great that it’s finally here and Sony Malaysia has started promoting on it. Most of the TVs here are available past June so take your time and see which one you like.
