Epic Games Mobile App Store to Fight Against Google Play Store and Apple App Store

Not too long ago before 2018 ended, there was the launch of the Epic Games Store for PC, which is set to take the competition straight to Steam. It offered developers and publishers a bigger chunk of money from their sales compared to Steam, which was certainly a no-brainer for the hardworking people of the industry.

It appears that this will not be the end of their endeavours as there are also plans to bring this to the mobile space in the form of an Epic Games mobile app store. It aims to bring the fight to Google Play Store and Apple App Store, with a similar selling point of taking a smaller cut of each sale.

Details on this Epic Games mobile app store are rather scarce at the moment. For now, we are only aware of their plans to start selling Android apps sometime in 2019 with the same 12% cut from each sale. To give you a better perspective, both Google and Apple take a 30% cut from each sale, just like Steam.

Realistically, this Epic Games mobile app store would be able to run on Android with little to no issues, but there wouldn’t be a way to dive into iOS as Apple is known to keep their ecosystem to themselves. In fact, Apple could easily cut down their fees if it means keeping competitors away.

For now, there isn’t much to go with based on what we know. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens later this year. It’s going to be a very exciting 2019, that’s for sure.
