Asia Pacific Predator League 2020/21 Interview With Boss Gold

Apart from Battle Arena Elites, we also managed to interview the PUBG Champion of Predator League 2019 Malaysia Region, Boss Gold, at the Asia Pacific Predator League 2020/21. To be precise, we talked with Nurman96, Skyco, Fenisk, and Demoneater. Asia Pacific Predator League 2020/21 Interview With Boss Gold

For those of you who aren’t aware of Boss Gold, 35-year old Skyco serves as the team captain, Nurman96 is the scout and support, Demoneater plays as a fragger / support, and Fenisk plays as a support.

The first question that was tossed is if the team had to make any adjustments when preparing for the tournament given that it’s held in an online-only format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Skyco explained that there isn’t much difference as they had their normal scrims, just that they can’t hold scrims with people outside of the region. As a result, it would be extra challenging as they aren’t aware how the other teams will play.

The next question that was asked is if they are playing from separate locations or together in a single location. Nurman96 stepped up to answer by stating:

To answer the previous question if we made any changes, we didn’t make any changes from the beginning until now because we never played together in one besides the LAN tournament in 2019. Our training, tournaments, and everything, we play separately from our location. We’re all friends, we play together, and we came out to recruit players. Finally, this line up was made from that.

I then proceeded to ask “what is the biggest challenge the team is facing since playing in an online-only format?”. Nurman96 answered that there has never been any challenges but if there was any, it was internet connection. This is understandable given a game like PUBG, speed and latency plays a huge role in how you perform, and every small bit could lead to your victory or your demise.

When asked how far Boss Gold thinks they can go in the tournament, we had a refreshingly honest answer:

Top five is our goal because we know our limits. The top four teams are gonna be huge, and one of them is Battle Arena Elites from our own region, they have a very strong lineup. The amount of training we had is not much but it should be enough to take us to the top five.

Given their answer, I was curious to know what they believe could make Boss Gold perform better. Skyco answered by stating it’s their communication as apart from that, there’s really nothing to worry about. In a game like PUBG where every bit of information would help players approach situations better, this is perfectly understandable as communication is the foundation of every team’s performance.

Lastly, we have the question that I’m sure many people always wonder with Esports athletes; do their family members support their endeavours? Nurman96 had the traditional route where the family didn’t really support him at first but started to change their minds when he managed to show results. Demoneater and Fenisk on the other hand says that their family doesn’t support them, but they’re not stopping them either.

Widening the question a little bit, Boss Gold was asked if they received support from people in Malaysia. Team captain Skyco mentioned that they had a lot of support, including the people they play against within the region. Nurman96 added that it’s because they are representing the country, although he pointed quickly pointed out that when they’re playing against those same people, they are still considered the enemy.
