There has been a notable restructuring in Capcom Vancouver Studios, formerly known as Blue Castle Games, which resulted in about 30% staff layoffs. This may affect the future of certain games, especially the Dead Rising series.

Capcom Vancouver, the studio most notably known for the Dead Rising series, has been hit by layoffs. This is the statement that Capcom has provided:

Capcom Vancouver has undergone a restructure which has impacted approximately 30 percent of the studio, as part of its regular periodic assessment of upcoming projects and overall studio goals. The team is continuing to work to support the recent release of Puzzle Fighter for mobile and is dedication to it flagship Dead Rising series.

The statement provided to IGN follows a report by Kotaku indicating “around 50 people were laid off.” Moreover, it also stated that the Vancouver studio has cut the scope on its next Dead Rising game, as well as canceled an unannounced project. We have no clue what this unannounced project actually is but I suppose we’ll never be able to know now, or rather it’s pointless to bother with it.

Capcom Vancouver was formerly known as Blue Castle Games, the makers of the arcade-style baseball game The Bigs. After being acquired by Capcom in 2010, the studio is most notably known for its work on the Dead Rising franchise beginning with Dead Rising .

Dead Rising 4 was launched for the Xbox One and PC in 2016. It then released for the PlayStation 4 last December. If you’re wondering which one is it, it’s called Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package (that’s what she said).

Pokdepinion: Well, this is quite normal in the videogame industry, especially if you’re under the banner of a giant company. We can only hope that the ones that got laid off will be able to pick themselves up again and keep pressing forward.
