mxmtoon, Life Is Strange 2 Voice Actress Releases Life Is Strange: True Colors-Inspired EP

Today, mxmtoon releases her True Colors EP to coincide with the release of Life Is Strange: True Colors, one of the most successful selling games in PC history. The highly anticipated next entry of the franchise, created by Deck Nine Games and distributed by SQUARE ENIX, has created quite a stir in the gaming world. The game’s key character, Alex Chen, will have a singing voice, while mxmtoon will provide the game’s musical backdrop.

mxmtoon, a.k.a. Maia, combines two of her greatest passions: music and gaming, in this video. The artist felt an instant connection to Chen, a lesbian, 21-year-old Asian American singer who is clever and sensitive but frequently battles to navigate her own emotions, as a longstanding fan of the popular narrative adventure franchise with over 20 Million unique players over its lifespan.

The character’s similarity, which Maia describes as “eerily similar,” made the creative process go smoothly. “It was really fun,” she recalls. “I had a lot of liberty with what I wanted to write about.” The Life is Strange: True Colors EP includes a mxmtoon original, the emotional “in the darkness,” as well as two inspired renditions of Radiohead’s “Creep” and Violent Femmes’ “Blister in the Sun.”
