Does the Xbox Series X Have To Stand Upright?

Does the Xbox Series X Have To Stand Upright? 20

Given the rather radical design of the Xbox Series X, many gamers have wondered if it has to stand upright. Given that game consoles usually can be placed in a variety of ways, it can seem like a pain in the butt for some, especially if you’re going for a particular layout.

In an interview Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer, he shed some light on the matter. As it turns out, the Xbox Series X can actually be placed down flat and stand upright. The choice is up to you.

The first thing I wanted to say is the [Xbox Series X’s] design works vertical or horizontal, just like the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. We think that it’s not our job to dictate the orientation of our console in your home. That is up to you.

This will give gamers the versatility to plan out their gaming setups at home, especially those who are particularly critical about space-saving. It’s also said that the idea for the design is for the Xbox Series X to “fade into the background” rather than stand out in the room.

Now it sits in my home [and] it just kind of goes away. It’s quiet, it sits on the shelf–to be fair, I have mine laying on its side–and just where it sits in my setup, it just goes away. And that’s exactly what I wanted it to do.

For now, we look towards the horizon to see how Microsoft’s next-gen console will fare. There will be a host of exciting games coming its way, including Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga.
