When you think of internal storage devices, it can be easy to misunderstand that you’d get the whole capacity listed. Whether it’s 500GB or 1TB, you’re not going to get whole capacity for use as some will be reserved for system files. In the case of the Xbox Series X, it will take a big chunk of it.

According to the folks over at GameSpot who already have an Xbox Series X with them, the 1TB SSD that comes with the console already has roughly 200GBs taken up by system files. To be precise, it’s 198GB for the OS and other important system files.

In other words, gamers will only have access to about 802GB of space in the 1TB storage capacity. With that being said however, there is still a chance that Microsoft might still trim down on the system files’ size so you’d have access to more space. 800GB is still a pretty big amount of space, but if you keep focusing on that missing 200GB, it can seem painful.

With games getting bigger in size over the years, it’s not a surprise to see a console’s OS taking up a lot of space as well. After all, they’re not as simple as the old days as gamers expect it to come with chock full of features, which will certainly add to the overall size.

If the internal storage capacity is not enough, you can always make use of the Xbox Series X Expandable Storage cards by Seagate. For now, Microsoft’s next gen console is expected to launch on 10th November 2020.

Pokdepinion: Personally, I’m actually fine with it taking up that amount. It’s not really a big deal and I’d still have plenty of leftover storage space anyway.
