Call of Candy Crush? Call of Candy Duty?

Yes you read that right folks. King – the developers of popular mobile games Candy Crush Saga, Candy Crush Soda and a whole slew of other totally awesome action games that aren’t cutesy and geared for kids whatsoever are developing a new Call of Duty game for mobile devices. The CoD franchise isn’t a total stranger in the mobile gaming scene as Activision Blizzard had released three games prior namely Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, Call of Duty: Strike Team and Call of Duty: Heroes.

Announced on their website, they stated that this is a brand new team within developer King based in Stockholm Sweden. In a blog post they wrote:

The team is adapting one of the most iconic game franchises of all-time: Call of Duty, to become a mobile experience. This is a rare and exciting opportunity. Our challenge as a team is to create a Call of Duty experience on mobile that will strive to transform the best console experience fans know and love, while also breaking new ground for mobile and redefining the genre. Our approach and ambition is to be fresh, social, and highly accessible, while providing a very authentic game experience. The team will prototype extensively, have the freedom to think outside the box, and be encouraged to stretch their expertise in ways to create surprising results.

This move by Activision Blizzard shouldn’t really come as a surprise as they had acquired King for a cool $5.9 billion back in 2015. This will be the first major game the developers will be working on since Activision Blizzard’s acquirement as they had been focusing mainly on their ever popular Candy Crush franchise. This will also be the first Activision Blizzard property that they’ll be working on.

So far no other additional information has been given regarding the game so it’s still up in the air as to the direction King would be taking this game. Who knows? Maybe King would just combine both Candy Crush and Call of Duty elements and Frankenstein it into some sort of zany Splatoon style third-person shooter.

People often complained that the franchise needed something new anyway.

Pokdepinion: I’m intrigued as to where King would take this game. I think they should just go crazy and do something totally different than what you would expect from a CoD game as this is just a mobile game and it wouldn’t and shouldn’t (?) really impact the franchise as a whole.
