There’s a new PSVR headset that was revealed by Sony Interactive Entertainment known as the PlayStation VR Model CUH-ZVR2, and it comes with some upgrades.

New PSVR Headset Revealed

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the PlayStation VR will get a hardware update bringing some improvements to the cabling and to the processor unit. They’re basically quality of life improvements, so don’t expect massive changes.

The house of PlayStation sent in  a press kit, with the first images showcasing the changes, which are visible, but only if you squint (but the fact that the images are in massively high resolution helps, I guess).

The new model will bear the model number CUH-ZVR2 (compared to CUH-ZVR1 of the original PlayStation VR) and the most visible change is in the fact that the main wire connecting to the headset now brings the headphone cable all the way, so you’ll be able to plu your earbuds directly to the unit. Default earbuds are still included in the box, but the shape is different to adapt to the band of the headset.

The volume and mute controls have also been integrated in the headset, just below the visor. On top of that, the cable connecting the headset and the Processor unit is slimmer for better usage comfort.

The processor unit has also been updated to implement HDR pass through. This means that you won’t need to unplug the unit in order to enjoy HDR content on your TV. That being said, the PlayStation VR headset will still need to be turned off. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to use the new processor unit with the old headset model, due to differences in the cable setup.

There is no release date for the west, at the moment, but the new model will launch in Japan on October 14th. The price won’t change compared to the current model.

On top of the new PlayStation VR, a new PlayStation Move controller will also be released at a later date, bearing the model number CECH-ZCM2. The new controller will have updated performance and will be compatible exclusively with PlayStation 4. The biggest change is that it won’t have the updated Mini-USB connection anymore, but it will conform to the PS4 standard by using a Micro-USB USB connection. The price for the newPlayStation Move model will also remain unchanged.

Pokdepinion: If you haven’t gotten yourself the headset yet but are planning to, the best thing to do now is to wait it out a bit. Either to get this one or or buy the older version off from someone since the value of the item will surely drop and you’ll save some money. #JustSayin
