Gearbox Reveals Past Failure Which Made Borderlands 3 A Much Better Product

Borderland 1 and 2 released only three years apart from each other. When you take into account the Pre-Sequel, it’s even shorter with only 2 years apart from the second game. This made people wonder why Borderlands 3 is taking a long time to release. Now, we have an idea as to why this happened.

According to Borderlands 3 Art Director Scott Kester, they were tired due to the back-to-back development of the first two games in the franchise. As such, they needed a change of pace as they fear that doing the third game so soon may not result in a good product.

Okay, so we made 1 and we made 2 pretty back-to-back. I was on both of those games and we were tired. And we were like, ‘Should we make another one?’ And we didn’t want to, we needed a break. Because if we didn’t have a break I think we wouldn’t have made something as good. By the grace of the beautiful 2K they allowed us to say, “Hey, we want to try this Battleborn thing, we just want to kind of reset our palette, we’re gonna try this thing”. And we did it and… you know, if we didn’t make that game Borderlands 3 wouldn’t be as good as it is now. It made us think about things a little different.

Essentially, the team has learned quite a bit from the failure they faced with Battleborn. This in turn helped to shape Borderlands 3 into what they have created right now. There were even details about post-game content that was shared. It was mentioned that they do have plans to go into DLC, and that they’ve made some rather substantial ones already. As for how many there will be and possible costs, that will be revealed at a later date.

Borderlands 3 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 13th September 2019. It is expected to come to Google Stadia at a later date.

Pokdepinion: September cannot come any sooner. I’m so excited for the game, and I hope co-op will still be as fun, if not more so than ever.
