How to Play As Animals And Other Characters in Red Dead Redemption 2

I’m sure you’ve seen or heard about the possibility of playing as a soaring eagle in Red Dead Redemption 2 and it got you curious. Can you play as other animals or characters in the game? Well, today we’re going to teach you how to do just that on the PC version.

Over on Nexus Mods, a set of files uploaded by user TanyaeNorth provide the data required to swap out Arthur’s model for a range of different people and animals. It’s not something that is confirmed to work for everything as some may behave weirdly or appear invisible, like crabs for example.

To use it, all you have to do is find your save folder. It should be something like this; Documents > Rockstar Games > Red Dead Redemption 2 > Profiles. You can also find it by going to the settings menu in Rockstar Games Launcher, selecting the game, and the pick “View Save Files”.

Note: I recommend backing up your save folder in case something goes wrong.

In your save folder, replace the existing model files (which should be labeled SRDR30000) with your chosen animal model files. When you’ve booted up the game, your character model will be replaced with your chosen model. Keep in mind that there are a number of characters model that won’t work well.

Flying around as an eagle is possible, but it can seem a little wonky at first. You just have to give it a bit of feel and get to used it, which shouldn’t take long. The controls are inverted so you will be using the “S” key to ascend and jump off the ground.

We’ve seen players modding the console version of Red Dead Redemption 2 with some success. Editing save files on PC will be a much easier, and technically safer, process. For now, go have fun and see what wacky and zany results you get.
