#PokdePicks 5 Awesome Games to Look Out For in May 2019

A Plague Tale: Innocence

Developed by Asobo Studio, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a puzzle-driven action adventure game set in the year 1349 during the events of the Hundred Years’ War. The Black Plague pandemic has just begun and is ruthlessly ravaging the Kingdom of France. Amicia and her younger brother Hugo are pursued by the Inquisition through villages devastated by the disease.

The escape is not easy and they will have to join forces with other children as well as evade swarms of rats using fire and light. The player controls Amicia, a sling-thrower who can throw rocks to either distract the rats from themselves or to direct them towards the Inquisition knights that are hunting you down. You will need to rely on your wit to survive this perilous journey.

Fun fact, the story for A Plague Tale: Innocence was crafted based on what Asobo Studio learned from Pixar. In an interview with Xbox Wire, Lead Game Designer Kevin Choteau mentioned that the formula for a compelling single-player narrative is “write, erase, change, enrich, and repeat.”

A Plague Tale: Innocence will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 14th May 2019.

Rage 2

A collaboration project between Avalanche Studios and id Software, Rage 2 is a first-person shooter set 30 years after the first Rage game. In the game, an asteroid has annihilated most of the earth’s population, and humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule with an iron fist.

Players take on the role of Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland who has been robbed of his home and left for dead. This is due to the Authority hunting for nano technology, making the protagonist the ideal target. With no choice left, Walker sets out on an adventure to take down the Authority not only for revenge, but also for the sake of humanity’s survival.

Fun fact, Id Software studio director Tim Willits mentioned that the previous game’s development did not as planned due to the limited technology at the time. As such, Rage 2 utilizes Avalanche Studios’ Apex game engine, which allows the team to create detailed environments while also allowing players to transition between worlds without any loading screens.

Rage 2 will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 14th May 2019.

Team Sonic Racing

The return of Sega’s most iconic mascot in the video game industry, Team Sonic Racing is a kart racing game featuring characters from Sonic the Hedgehog. Unlike normal kart racers however, it has a bigger focus on cooperative play as the player is part of a team of racers. Instead of winning races by finishing fastest, teams will earn points based on how they worked together.

The game features a variety of game modes, including Grand Prix, in which players compete to earn points; Time Trial, in which players race for the fastest time possible; and Exhibition, in which players can customize the racing rules. There is also a Team Adventure mode which serves as a story-driven campaign and tutorial for new racers, giving players an explanation for why they are racing.

Fun fact, the concept for Team Sonic Racing came about when game producer Takashi Iizuka wanted to give a unique spin to kart racing. The team-based focus was conceived when Iizuka observed his son playing a kart racing game with friends. He noticed that they were all not happy and wondered if there was a way for everyone to enjoy it. This led to the cooperative spin to Team Sonic Racing.

Team Sonic Racing will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on 21st May 2019.

Observation

Developed by interactive horror experts No Code Studio, Observation is a sci-fi thriller game set in outer space. Players go on a story-driven adventure to uncover the circumstances surrounding Dr. Emma Fisher, and the crew of her mission, through the lens of the station’s artificial intelligence S.A.M.

Players assume the role of S.A.M. by operating the station’s control systems, cameras, and tools to assist Emma in discovering what is happening to the station, the vanished crew, and S.A.M. itself. One thing’s for sure, what’s lurking in the vast darkness of outer space isn’t something for the weak-hearted to face.

Fun fact, developer No Code Studio is well-known for making interactive horror games. Previously, they released the critically-acclaimed Stories Untold in 2017, and Stories Untold in 2016. As such, many are looking forward to experiencing a unique horror experience as Observation is a virtual reality-based game.

Observation will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and PC on 21st May 2019.

Conan Unconquered

Developed by the same minds behind the Command and Conquer series, Conan Unconquered is a real-time strategy game set in the barbaric world of Conan the Barbarian. Players will have to build their stronghold and assemble an army to survive the savage hordes of Hyboria. The enemies will come in endless waves, and survival will be fully dependent on your management skills.

Wave after wave of increasingly more difficult enemies will rush at your gates and you will need to manage resources, research new technologies to advance your defenses, and recruit an ever-growing army if you are to save survive utter destruction. Players can either play this game alone or with another player in cooperative fashion.

Fun fact, Conan Unconquered is developed by Petroglyph Games, a studio made up of the same people who have worked on Star Wars: Empire at War and a number of entries in the Command & Conquer series. While it’s the first time we are getting a real-time strategy entry for Conan the Barbarian, we have seasoned developers for the genre working to ensure a high-quality release.

Conan Unconquered will be coming exclusively to PC on 30th May 2019.
