Relive Sony’s Revenge Plan Against Nintendo with the PlayStation Classic

The folks over at Sony Interactive Entertainment Singapore has officially announced that they will be launching the PlayStation classic. It is a miniature version of the original PlayStation console, and it will be coming with 20 games pre-loaded in the system.

The PlayStation first debut in Japan on 3rd December 1994. It was the result of a failed partnership with Nintendo, who ended up partnering with Phiips and resulted in the failed Philips CD-i console. Sony actually had a working prototype of a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

It was a very innovative gaming console at the time with its focus on 3D graphics as well as the utilization of CD-ROMs for games instead of cartridges, in which the latter was the more popular option back then. CDs were more cost-efficient and was capable of storing far more data than a standard cartridge.

The package will include the following items:

PlayStation Classic Package

  • HDMI cable
  • 2 x Controllers
  • USB cable
  • User guide
  • The console itself

The PlayStation Classic will be available in Malaysia starting from 3rd December 2018, to coincide with its original launch date, and will be retailing for RM429. There will be limited units available for purchase.

Pokdepinion: Oh wow, this would definitely be a collectors’ item. Wonder if I should get one for myself or no since I still have my old console somewhere in the house.
