Mortal Kombat 11 Cross-Play In Consideration

The hype for Mortal Kombat 11 is high and more information has started to pop up on the game. The latest one we have gotten to know about is that there is some strong consideration on adding cross-play functionality for the game.

According to wccftech during the game’s press event in London, Game Designer Derek Kirtzic was asked about the chances of cross-platform play making it into Mortal Kombat 11. Details aren’t ready to be discussed right now but it was stated that it is something NetherRealm Studios is looking into and hope to do so at some point.

Furthermore, in an interview with GameRevolution regarding the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Producer Trevor Traub said:

We’re trying to reach as many people as we possibly can. So we’re going to take that opportunity.

Opening the title up to more players through cross-platform means would certainly broaden the playing field and bring friends together across various platforms. In the past, Fortnite generated a lot of interest on cross-platform play. This even led to Epic Games pushing for cross-platform online services live throughout this year for the Unreal Engine, the very engine Mortal Kombat 11 is running on.

Of course, there may be some hiccups here and there in the journey of making Mortal Kombat 11 cross-play compatible. While Microsoft and Nintendo is a strong supporter, Sony has only started dipping their toes in it. For now, we will wait and see if it will be present in the game or not.

Mortal Kombat 11 will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on 23rd April 2019.

Pokdepinion: At this point, cross-play should be the norm for multiplatform games. Sure, advantages in certain platforms could make it easier for some to play but ultimately, it’s about making it easier to have fun with friends.
