PlayStation 4 sales are doing pretty well, especially with the release of the new PS4 Pro.

There are many people out there who thought that videogame consoles will not sell well, especially after the last generation of consoles. We’ve seen high console counts in the past before but it would definitely be tough to beat that record.

Well, it seems like the PlayStation 4 is doing pretty damn well, and here’s what happened.

According to Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited Singapore Branch (SIES), the PlayStation 4 has reached yet another milestone with total sales of the console surpassing the 50 million mark as of December 6th 2016…fun fact, just a day before my birthday.

Now this sales number includes the PS4 Pro, so it’s not just the regular version of the console. Sony attributed its success to the recently passed Black Friday sales, where a lot of consumers seem to have picked one up for themselves. With Final Fantasy XV recently being released, I’m not surprised that sales of the console had a sudden boost.

Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said:

We’re truly delighted that the PS4 community continues to flourish since launch three years ago. With tremendous support from our fans and partners across the globe, this year we were able to deliver an unprecedented lineup of hardware such as the new slimmer PS4, PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR. We will continue to provide the best gaming experiences available through our ground-breaking software lineup and network services, as we focus on accelerating our business and expanding the PS4 ecosystem.”

SIES has gone on record saying that the PlayStation 4’s software portfolio will continue to grow for a long time. They’re not just talking about the big scale developers’ games but also the ones from independent studios.

Pokdepinion: I personally own the console and I have to say that as of right now, the PlayStation 4 has the more solid videogame library among all consoles. I play games on both the PC and the PS4 and at this time, I have more games in the PS4 that I’m interested in. In fact, I only play Overwatch on PC. If you’re a gamer, you wouldn’t regret getting a PS4 unless you’re into all that 4K/60 FPS/120FPS stuff. Remember, gameplay is always more important than visuals.
