With Sony Interactive Entertainment revealing a new trailer for an upcoming PS4 game,it showed how well the PS4 Pro can hold its own against the Xbox One X.

PS4 Pro Holds Its Own Against Xbox One X

Sony has struck a blow to the Xbox One X with some stunning new PS4 Pro gameplay footage. Sony revealed a brand new Shadow of the Colossus gameplay trailer at the Tokyo Game Show. Proving that the PS4 Pro is no slouch, the video highlights some of the game’s improved lighting, shadow and particle effects.

Captured on PS4 Pro, the video also highlights some of the game’s superior animations. Sony also confirmed that the Shadow of the Colossus remake would run in 4K on PlayStation 4 Pro. Shadow of the Colossus made something of a surprise appearance during the Sony E3 2017 press conference.

Just a few hours after fans discovered a trademark filing for a new Shadow of the Colossus game, Sony lifted the lid on the PS4 remake. The new Shadow of the Colossus has been built from the ground-up, featuring impressive new visuals and animations. Sony didn’t give an exact release date for the PS4 remake, beyond suggesting that it would launch in 2018.

This was confirmed at TGS, where Sony told fans that it would launch next year. The only bad news is that the Shadow of the Colossus remake won’t come with any new content.

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida told Famitsu:

It is a remake. The game content is the same as the original version, but all the assets are being remade. I figured we could use such tech to make if we’re going to make Shadow of the Colossus in the PS4 era. Bluepoint is the development company behind the PS3 remaster versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. So we know them rather well.

On the plus side, it will have new control options, although the original control scheme will remain intact. If you want to know more about the Shadow of the Colossus remake for the PS4, click here to get the full scoop.

Pokdepinion: I’ve said this one, I’ll say it again, it doesn’t matter how strong the hardware is. What’s important is how good the games are for each platform. On the plus side, it shows how well the PS4 Pro can perform, especially since we got to know how beastly the Xbox One X is.

Correct. For what it’s worth, I’m more surprised that they manage to run DOOM (2016) on the small tablet Nintendo Switch. :O

Since this generation of console will probably stay for a few more years, I do believe optimizing with the hardware is the best thing to do.

I’m becoming a fan of you now :P Seems like you do know your stuff. The Nintendo Switch is actually a rather powerful device on it’s own albeit packaged that small. Running DOOM (2016) for it was indeed an eye opener for us. This optimization has come a long way that includes solid hardware, coupled with powerful fresh games development API to deliver much better performances. Funny thing is that Microsoft used to be ahead of this in the past because people would rather develop on Microsoft platform due to it’s available development libraries and cross-compatibility with PC possibilities. But Sony identified the need to fix this and has worked really hard to achieve what gives them the bragging rights today too :)
